The purpose of a research diary

Since conducting research and keeping on track with a PhD can be quite stressful and overwhelming, I followed the suggestion of my supervisor Dr. Miles Weaver to create a research blog, which serves like a weekly/bi-weekly diary to record the progress made.

It shall also help gather comments and aid other researchers, both from a similar field of interest and/or researchers and doctoral students who experience the same constraints.

As a full-time professional, being constantly involved in research requires a lot of discipline and time management skills. And what I have encountered so far is that research works well in combination with patience and endurance. The big picture of writing the literature review, of publishing the first few chapters and papers might lead to losing sight of the small necessary steps to accomplish this.

Therefore, a research blog is the ideal tool to maintain a high level of motivation, to question ideas and to see where I am going with my research.

Hopefully, there will be much interaction on this blog and many entries to follow.

Happy researching everyone!
